Actually I think there would also be the possibility to claim that you want to hold or increase that position without claiming that this is automatically a victory for democracy. For me this approach sounds very ideological. It even reminds me on the history of totalitarian systems where criticism of e.g. communist leaders was often reversed with the argument that you would also question the whole ideological system in that case.  Following this logic there is no necessity to question the decisions of US politicians since in the end it will all help to cement "democracy" anyway.

I like that you put quotation marks on democracy, Frank. Spot on.
